Quality Black & White Darkrooms

PhotoCentral has a newly remodeled and expanded 16-station state-of-the-art black and white darkroom accommodating 35 mm to 4x5 negatives. Each station is self-contained and includes shelves and light safe drawers for paper storage. The darkroom is available hourly from Mondays through Saturdays. Additional components to the lab include a professional mat cutter and dry mount press. All the tools you need are here; just bring film and photo paper! The Lab is superb! Come on by!

Printing I: Introduction to Printing

Images you print yourself are better! Learn to process and print your own black and white photographs! Nothing is more magical than watching a print appear before your eyes in the developer. Film selection and types, printing from color negatives. Film development, printing, contrast control and dry mounting are covered. All chemicals and equipment are included; you provide film and paper.

Printing II: Exploring Black & White Materials

Class#350022, 450022, 150022, 250022

Expand your printing skills and practice the techniques you learned in Printing I. This class now includes more on contrast control, advanced burning and dodging techniques and introduction to push processes. Learn to print on fiber based papers and examine the creative potential of the black & white print statement and how subtle changes can make dramatic differences. Come ready to print for the first meeting. Class size is limited to 16 students.

Printing III: Expanding Creativity

Continue your exploration of the darkroom in this newly designed hands-on printing class. While continuing to improve your printing skills, begin your in-depth examination of toners and how they add permanence and beauty to the photograph and explore alternatives in seeing through film choices like infrared and high speed films. Expand your presentation tool box by trying presentation techniques like floating images, shadowboxes and window matting. This new class format enrichens the printing series and gets you ready to continue your explorations in Creative Printing, Fine Print and Zone System. Don’t miss it!

Open Lab: Darkroom And Mounting Facility

Our darkroom/mounting facility is an excellent place for printing and preparing your photographs for presentation. Lab is always open on Mondays from 5:00-10:00pm. Other lab opportunities are on a to-be-arranged basis. Email info@photocentral.org to be on the darkroom list and get into the lab and move forward in your creative projects.

Independent Lab

Independent lab is for photographers with darkroom experience who are working on a special printing project or just need more time in the darkroom. All standard chemicals and equipment are provided; you bring film, paper and begin to work. Participants can sign-up for a specific enlarger station for each session.

Private Darkroom

Ideal for working on projects requiring privacy and long darkroom sessions, PhotoCentral’s new state of the art darkroom offers photographers the finest workspace. Spacious and fully equipped, this darkroom cannot be beat! Available on an hourly and daily basis.
